Extended vacations are great. It gives me time to contemplate. Some thoughts while on the road in Nicaragua, Panama, and Costa Rica...
While backpacking in Central America, my plans were always up in the air. Everyday, there are forks on the road where I decide where to go and how long to stay. Each fork and every decision can change the eventual path I travel. I met some reallly neat people on this trip, so I find it profound that I only got to meet these people through the exact chain of random decisions I made on each fork of the road. Makes me wonder if there's a greater reason for the path of life I take.
Another story... 10 years ago my friend invited me to dinner at his relatives' home. I only have a vague memory of this one passing dinner, but about a year ago I had dinner with them again. This would only be the second time that I met them. I remember the parents but I had little recollection of the children who were now grown up. During dinner, one of teen girls relayed to me that she loves the broccoli we were eating. She then told me that I turned her on to broccoli 10 years ago when I convinced her to try it for the first time. This was truly a wow moment for me. To learn that my innocent act from 10 years ago influenced her life in some small way, makes me wonder about the impact of my life's actions.
